food and working out

Nothing much happened today in the life of Sandy, but that is ok.
My mom brought Monty back to my place today and I made us a little lunch of my leftovers from yesterday. I had Amy's brand soup-curried lentil...sooo good. I add a can of mixed beans to it so it is a bit more filling and it was delish. My mom had left over alfredo veggies with baked tofu and we both had a little blueberry muffin. Yum!
After she left I headed to work and spent the majority of my time reading and catching up on blogs. I was excited to get home because Mr. Monty was waiting for me and we didn't get to spend much time together this morning! I took him on a quick walk, it was way too cold to stay outside for long and then we had dinner.
I bought brussel sprouts Sunday and almost forgot I had them, so I had spicy roasted brussel sprouts and half a baked potato for dinner...it was soooooooooo good. I want to eat my left overs now!!! After dinner I did a little painting and it was soo fun!! I plan on doing more tomorrow and finding some cute frames for them! Now it is Biggest Loser time and then doing my new Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout dvd!!
I bought it over the weekend and tried it out for the first time last night and I happy to say it was intense and I loved it!!! Even though I have lost 55 lbs and am the smallest I have ever been, I still have bummer days about my body and haven't really accepted my new figure. This year I really want to start feeling better about myself and want to get everything toned up for summer and maybe wear a swimsuit for the first time in probably 5 years!!!
I have noticed that a lot of you lovely blog ladies have been posting about diet and work outs and it is super inspirational to read about others experiences, their likes and dislikes and what gets and keeps them motivated!!
I plan on adding a bit more of my diet and workouts to my blog because maybe someone will gain something from reading it and that would be wonderful!!!

my yummy dinner tonight.
bussel sprout recipe:
use however many brussel sprouts you want, I wanted leftovers so I used about half the bag (fresh, not frozen)
wash them and cut them in half
place in a bowl and sprinkle with olive oil, sea salt and black pepper and diced garlic
add your favorite spicy condiment. I use either Sriracha or Cento Diced Hot Cherry Peppers but you can use Frank's Hot Sauce or red pepper flakes etc-use however much you want in relation to how spicy you want the food to be. I like spicy things, but I don't use too much because I love the flavor of brussel sprouts all on their own and don't want to mask it.
mix everything together and let sit for the time it takes to preheat the oven (400 degrees)
place on cookie sheet/baking pan and mix them around after a few minutes.
take them out once they start getting a brown roasted look to them, which is usually after 15 minutes or so.

I didn't do anything special to my baked potato. I used a bit of butter and topped it with green onion and a little bit of the diced hot cherry peppers.

Sorry, if the recipe is confusing...its just something I threw together awhile ago and a lot of the times I don't even add the spicy aspect to them. Pretty much you can do whatever you want, sometimes I add a splash of balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar. If you have any questions about it or anything else, feel free to ask!!!!
Brussel sprouts are my favorite veggie, I also love leeks and need to start cooking with them more!! What are some of your favorite veggies and veggie recipes?

Fort pictures.

Today has been a quiet day and I can't wait to get out of the house for a little bit and go to Caribou Coffee with Stephanie!!!
I realized I forgot to post a couple fort pictures in the last entry, so here they are:

the fort entrance.
Stephanie is all cute and asleep on the couch behind Ravi.

looking up in the fort.

inside the fort.

We used floor lamps as our support and duct taped the sheets like mad to the walls. Once we got it built and sturdy, we only had one side blow out and it was easily fixed. Such a blast, I recommend everyone building a fort and being a little kid again...it is a nice little getaway.

weekend fun time!!

Oh my, what a week and weekend!!!
My friend, Hannah, that was in from San Diego and her boyfriend, Michael left this morning to go back home. I didn't see them again after Wednesday, but I got a sweet little message apologizing for not having more time to hang out during their visit. I guess I'll just have to take another trip out there soon, I hate going by myself though.
The rest of my weekend was quite lovely, despite a few emotional hiccups. I have realized that people can surprise you over and over and over again and not always for the best, whether they be friends or people who were a part of your past. Then there are the ones that do surprise you for the best and one of those people is my lovely bestie, Stephanie. She kept me sane and busy this weekend, she was there to listen and give advice and to be silly with and is truly what kept the weekend being one of the best I have had in awhile!!!
She posted about our silly weekend, so if you want to read about it and see some pictures she snapped, click on her name!!
I'm not going to go into huge detail of the weekend because she did such a lovely post about it, but here are some of the highlights for me and a few pictures to go along!!

Friday:
Stephanie and I went to Tipp City because I wanted to share the little vintage stores with her, I knew she would love them and I like sharing pieces of my life with my friends. We had a silly/weird experience that started on Friday and continued on into Saturday, to read about it visit Stephanie's post about the weekend.
We both got found some cute things to buy, I got a couple little copper molds and a pretty little tin for my kitchen.

pretty tin

One store we wanted to go into was closed, so we got Banana Cream Pie coffee's at a little coffee shop in Tipp, discussed our plans for the evening which was building a FORT!!! Once we got some things figured out, we headed back to Dayton, picked up food supplies and got to building the fort.
The night did not go exactly as planned but all in all it was a good time and I think we should start having a fort night once a month!!

Saturday:
Ravi and Stephanie got a hold of me and invited me back up to Tipp City so that Stephanie could get something she put back the day before and so we could go to the store that was closed. We headed back up and had another fun afternoon in Tipp. I found a pretty little tray and Stephanie got her owl napkin holder!!

This counting machine was sooooo cute!! I want it to buy it but talked myself out of it since I have no need for it.

After Tipp City, we went to the Oregon District in Dayton and browsed a few stores and then went to Michael's to get a few crafty things to occupy us the rest of the day. We colored silly little wooden letters, made friendship bracelets, knit, ate potato tacos and pie and watched Gilmore Girls till 1 in the morning!!
I have a ton more pictures from the shops on my flickr, so click on my flickr link to the right if you'd like to see more!!!

Sunday:
I headed to Troy, like usual, and did laundry. I took my mom to the new Chipotle that opened in town and then we headed to Target. The rest of the day was spent watching tv and then going to the gym once I got back to Dayton. I was hoping for a coffee night with a friend that I keep making plans with but he keeps bailing, but that fell through...again and now I'm just done trying for a little bit. Oh wells.

Today, I plan on getting out and taking a few pictures for a post later in the week, cleaning around my apartment and maybe getting coffee. Caribou Coffee has Monday Happens and you get a medium sized coffee for a dollar!!!
What are everyone else's plans for the day? Anything exciting?!

10 random things about me!!

I was tagged by Sam to list 10 random things about myself. I'm not sure mine will be too exciting but here goes nothing!!

1. I was born in Misawa, Japan. Besides Japan, Korea is the only other place I have been overseas. That needs to change!!!

2. I have a speech impediment and pronouce a lot of words wrong, For some reason my parents never put me in speech lessons, so now at 25 I am trying to rid myself of it.

3. I love love love love love love love love love love love love love  Henry Rollins x infinity.

4. I worked on an Air Force research panel for 5 years as a test subject.

5. I am super super duper terrified of raw tomoatoes. I can't even type/think about it, my chest is tightening up. I do like sun dried tomoatoes and salsa as long as there are no chunks, but that is where I draw the line.

6. I have my septum pierced but haven't worn anything in it since I graduated high school.

7. In the past 4 years I have lost and kept off 55 lbs. It is a daily struggle and sometimes I think I was happier when I weighed more.

8. I was kicked out of the San Diego Zoo's panda exhibit for getting too excited. They said my excitement and non stop picture taking was going to startle and upset the pandas.

9. I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies and I plan on keeping it that way because everyone makes such a huge deal about it.

10. My blog name-Filled With Wanderlust, comes from the Johnny Cash song Don't Take Your Guns to Town. My dad is a HUGE Johnny Cash fan and got to see him in concert for his high school graduation present...soooo cool!!

fun with friends

Tuesday nights dinner and yesterday's lunch/vintage shopping went well. I got a piece of everyone's mind about my weight loss/appearance, I defended myself and once they got it out of their system it wasn't brought up again. Other than that it was just catching up and reminiscing about people and places.
We had dinner at La Fiesta (of course) on Tuesday, the food was good and Hannah, Michael and Shirley (Hannah's mom) got drunk on sangria. I drove them back to Shirley's house to drop her off and then took Hannah and Michael out for more drinking. Troy is not a happening town on the weekend so it was even less happening on a Tuesday night, we all got bored pretty quickly and called it a night around 11.
Wednesday we went to lunch at a cute little cafe in Tipp City and then browsed their vintage shops. My mom met up with us so she could see Hannah for a little bit and meet Michael. She told us about a newer shop in town that I didn't know about, so we decided to check it out. It was super duper cute and I wish I could live in that store. They had soooo many cute vintage buttons and one was a pickle!!! It made me think of Stephanie and our shared love of pickles, so I decided to get it for her because it was too cute not to!!
After lunch I hung out at my parents house playing Donkey Kong and then headed back to Dayton for Starbuck's time with Stephanie, lounging around watching Veronica Mars with Monty and finishing The Raw Shark Texts....holy crap, it was a sad ending and I was bawling by the time I got to the last page. Another good read for our book club, I can't wait till our meeting this month or for next month's book.
Today is work and hopefully the gym later on tonight. I feel blah after eating out two days in a row and really want to kick my butt at the gym!!
I have come up with a couple ideas for weekly features on my blog and hope to get at least one of them all figured out and ready to be posted next week!!! I am excited for this because sometimes I struggle with what to post because my life is not always busy and exciting.
Time to get ready to work. Have a lovely day everyone!!!

fun filled days

I had quite the lovely weekend as all my days were fun filled and hope to keep the theme throughout the week and onto the next and next. I am tired of the blues and want to kick them to the curb for good. I have a bit of a busy week so hopefully it will be just the thing to keep me from getting down on myself.
Now weekend recap time!!!!
Friday was coffee (of course) and F21 with Stephanie and then Thai Smile with her and Ravi. It had been soooooo very long since I'd been there and it was just as good as I remembered!! Thai iced tea...yummy!!!
Saturday was a few errands during the day and then I headed to Columbus with Ravi and Stephanie for a friends birthday dinner. The place they had dinner only had one veggie option that was quite expensive so I opted to sit in the car with Stephanie who wasn't feeling good. I'm glad I did because we had nice girl talk, got a little bite to eat and coffee.
Sunday was like every Sunday for me, I headed to Troy bright and early to do laundry and get lunch with a friend from high school. After lunch I played the Wii and watched shows on the Soap network and then went grocery shopping with my mom. Once laundry was done I headed to Ravi and Stephanie's to join in the video game party with them and a couple other friends. We played a super mario game that was really cute but stressful and listened to the Lion King soundtrack.
Monday I cleaned around my apartment, went to the other F21 and TJ Maxx and then bought a few items for the dinner I was making my parents that night. They were bringing Monty back down and since they let him stay there so often I figured I'd do something nice for them. I saw my sister at TJ Maxx so I invited her as well and it was a lovely time.
I made baked bbq tofu and bought the rest-veggie cole slaw, salad toppings, multigrain flat bread and spinach dip from Dorothy Lane Market and bought a head of romaine and mac and cheese at Kroger. My mom brought pickled eggs and brownies and everything was super delicious and everyone loved the tofu which was nice.
After dinner I went to the gym and did an awesome cardio and leg workout, my little leggies are sore today and it feels awesome!!!

Tonight I'm heading up to Troy after work to have dinner with my best friend from high school and her boyfriend who are in town from San Diego. She also invited me to brunch tomorrow and then thrifting, so I am staying in Troy tonight that way I don't have to drive back and forth and back and forth.
Hopefully all goes well tonight and tomorrow, after myself Hannah (the high school bff) is my worst critic but only because she is like a mama bear...she is really protective over me and wants nothing but the best for me. She is the one that gives the verbal kicks in the butt to keep myself in check and try to motivate me, sometimes it works other times it makes me feel horrible so we shall see what tonight's talks bring.
Time to quit blogging and get ready for work!!

Saturday, January 16, 2010

it should be spring.

I was just getting ready to shut the computer and head out to run a couple errands when I saw I had a new e-mail. I decided to see what it was incase I didn't get time to check my e-mail until tomorrow and lordy am I glad I did. It was an Anthropologie e-mail and it had this lovely number as its feature!!

The wet weather and grey sky is getting to me today and this yellow dress was just the thing to start to cheer me up...it has reminded me that spring is on its way!
I am thinking that if I do make the move to Cinci or Columbus at the end of Feburary, getting a job at Anthro is going to be at the top of my to do list.

tuesday, wednesday and thursday recap!!!

I have been slacking on the updates!!! I guess that just means this update will be eventful and filled with a few pictures and whatnot!
Tuesday I stopped at f21 before work and got a new purse and a dress...but I think I may take the dress back and get it in blue instead of black. Oh decisions.
Work was work and I couldn't wait to leave so I could go to the gym, I was feeling super motivated and just wanted to do some cardio and weights!! The gym was packed when I got there but luckily by the time I was done changing a treadmill had opened up and when I was done on it an elliptical opened up and then the stair stepper!! Whoohoo!! I did some free weights for a bit and headed out.
I was going to go to the movies with someone, but that fell through. I was bummed but was really tired and fell asleep pretty early.
Yesterday I did some laundry and went to a little town near my parents house to browse in their stores with my mom. A lot of the stores were closed but it was still a nice time. One store had a resident cat and it was sooo cute and tiny!!!

Ugh, sooo cute. My mom told me I was acting crazy with how I was loving on it and she thought I was going to rip its arms off. Whatever...it was just really cute and sweet.
The store the cat was in was really cute, it was a variety store and just had tons of random stuff. There was this deer cookie jar that I loved and it was on sale, but it needed to be more on sale for me to buy it.

After browsing the shops I headed back to Dayton and got Starbucks with Stephanie then she taught me how to knit...again.
Today was work, which was boring but that meant I got to read and knit so that was fine with me. I went to the gym for a bit but it was super crowded again. I was lucky and got a treadmill but there was no room to even do weights, so I peaced out.
Now I'm at home watching The Office and relaxing. I really want pie but that would cancel out my work out...boo.
Since I forgot to take pictures of the dogs playing the other day, here are some pictures from yesterday!!

Newbie-he is sooo precious!!! I made him be my bff yesterday and wouldn't leave him alone. He loved it for the first couple hours and then wanted to kill me because I kept waking him up to play.

toby-he was super silly yesterday. He cried at the refrigerator for carrots until I gave in and got him one.

Desi-some days he is super duper sweet and cuddly and gives kisses but yesterday he was angry and didn't want me near his cage.

weekend recap

First off I just want to say thank you so much to all my lovely readers who left me such sweet comments about the blue days I've been having. They definitely helped to brighten my mood and made me stay positive about the good things I have in my life, like my wonderful friends!!
My mom was nice enough to let me use her car on Saturday, so I headed back down to Dayton and got yummy Panera with Ravi, Stephanie and Matt. We all hung out for a bit before Matt had to go to work and the Stephanie and I had girl talk while she taught me how to knit!! I made a little practice rectangle  that turned out not too bad and she made me a super cute headband!!
Yesterday, I went and bought myself some knitting supplies and then got Starbucks with Stephanie. Our super sweet barista who knows our drinks and gets them ready when he sees us walk in gave us surveys the other day that we could take so that we could get a free drink! Whoohoo!!! At Starbucks we talked about growing up and our futures...changes are coming up for everyone and I just want the best for my friends.
I have been thinking a lot about my future and what I want to do next, I haven't decided much but do know that once this winter is over with I am making a move. I don't have much here in Dayton and am ready to get out and find a life for myself, even if it is just down the interstate in Cincinnati or Columbus.
For now though I am going to make the most of what I have and one of those things is book club with my awesome friends!! January is Stephanie's month and she picked the The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall, I just got in the mail on Saturday so I'm not super far into it but have had a hard time putting it down when I do get to read it!!

Stephanie is coming up to Troy to my parent's house so that Sabin, Monty and my parents corgis can all play together in the snow!!! I brought my camera with me to capture some of the insanity that is sure to take place today! I'm going to read a bit in my book before the puppy party gets started!!

today=craptastic

My trip out into the winter wonderland that is Dayton, Ohio turned into a freaking nightmare...my car broke down at a rather busy intersection on my way to Target. Booooooooo.
I called Stephanie and she and Ravi were kind enough to come help me. I tried to keep it together as much as possible so I wasn't a complete mess by the time they got there and I did a pretty good job, I cried on the phone with my mom, left my dad a pretty pathetic voicemail and beat myself mentally a bit but was able to refrain from uncontrollable sobbing .
We tried to jump my car with no luck and eventually Ravi and a police officer had to push it into a snow filled parking lot until AAA showed up. Fun fun times. Now I have no car and am at my parents house in Troy to avoid being stuck in my apartment all weekend.
My car breaks down all the time and every time it does it just reminds me that I am freaking alone and helpless. I felt horrible for calling and having Ravi and Stephanie come out into the cold and felt horrible for having my mom drive 30+ minutes on the crappy roads so that I didn't have to be stuck in Dayton without a car all weekend and I felt horrible for myself because I can't control these things and I wish I could so that I don't have to be a bother to anyone.
Blah. I was already down on myself for being single and was determined to make today a good day and then that stuff had to happen...it just brought me back down.
I went to the gym to try and work out my negativity and it worked a bit, but now I am back at my parents watching tv and back to felling blue.
It would be wonderful if life could just give me a little break sometime soon.

i love mail!!!

I won the cute Domesticated Betty giveaway from the lovely Kaelah and received my prize in the mail today!! Yippee!! My mood is starting to brighten thanks to the lovely ladies that read my blog, the mailman and Kaelah!!! I am just about ready to make an attempt at getting out of my parking lot, Monty needs dog food and I need a shovel and coffee and I'm sure the coffee will help my mood as well.
Here are the cute goodies that I won:

a cute bow, a snowflake ornament, a heart ice cube tray and heart shaped measuring spoons!!!

three dishtowels-lovebirds, a cupcake and an owl!!!

a cute bow headband, a little mailbox filled with candy and a flower pot!!

All super cute prizes and I can't wait to use them all!!!!

blah snow.

Yesterday it snowed ALL day!! That meant a lot of playing in the snow with Monty, drinking lots of tea, watching lots of episodes of Bones on Hulu and starting a few crafts.
By 7:00 I was dying to get out of the house, so Matt and his friend Billy invited me to Starbucks with them...human interaction was just what I needed.
I get so down on myself most days for being single and on days when I see or talk to no one I'm even harder on myself. I have tried to refrain from talking about this on here and keep things positive but I guess sometimes its ok to let it out on my blog. I got my heart broken a bit more the other week by the same guy that has been breaking it for nearly a year now and somedays I can let it go but other days it is just a lot to handle. I guess yesterday and today are hard to handle days, today is still young though so I am going to try to turn the day around!!
Bright and early this morning, someone came and snow plowed my buildings parking lot and driveways...YAY!! I am taking full advantage of this and getting out of the house today after I finish the little crafts I started yesterday. I don't care what I do but I do not want to sit inside for hours again. One day of that is enough for me!!
Time to get ready for the day and finish these crafts!!!!
I'll leave you with some snowy pictures of Monty from yesterday (he only has a sweater on because he doesn't have a lot of fur and has a bald spot on his belly...I don't want him to get frost bite!!)

he keeps his nose in the snow the majority of the time we're outside.

Shaking all that snow off his nose!

Starring down the guy shoveling the sidewalk.

book club and new years

Happy 2010 everyone!
Its been a few days since I updated? A day? I'm not sure...so I'll start with Wednesday.
Wednesday which was the book club. I picked the book for the month, which was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer...it is an amazing and heartbreaking book and I highly recommend it to everyone. The book was an emotional read for a few of us and I was a bit blue before the meeting, so we didn't have as in depth conversations as we did for the first book...but the meeting was still enjoyable and the food was amazing!!
I was super nervous about the bbq baked tofu but it turned out good. I said I would post the recipe for it and the vegan cake so here they are:

BBQ BAKED TOFU
.extra firm tofu
.your favorite bbq sauce
1. preheat oven to 350
2. drain tofu and slice in half length wise
3. wrap in towel/paper towel and lay something heavy on top of the tofu (i laid a cookie sheet on top and then cookbooks) for 30 mins-hour
4. cut the tofu into whatever you want-cubes, steaks, slices etc. ( I sliced two blocks into eight steaks) and place in pan or on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil.
5. cover evenly with your favorite bbq sauce and let it marinate for however long you want (I let it marinate for 20 mins.)
6. once you put the tofu in the oven, flip it every 10 mins, add more bbq sauce every few flips and let it cook till it reaches the consistency you like (I let mine cook for around an hour)
7. enjoy!

VEGAN CAKE
.your favorite cake mix
.two bananas
.cooking oil
.water
.whatever topping you want (I suggest using a fruit glaze and fresh strawberries sliced or you can just use a can of pie filling like apple or pumpkin and leave out the glaze or use icing...pretty much you can do whatever.)
1. preheat oven to the temp the cake mix box says
2.mash up bananas
3. in a bowl combine the bananas and cake mix
4. add the amount of water and oil the cake mix box says
5. use a mixer to mix everything together (I start on the lowest setting and move up until it looks like the banana is well blended in)
6. lightly spray a sheet cake pan (I think the size of the one I use is 13x18.5)
7. bake until the cake starts to look golden on the edges and top
8. let it cool for a bit and then top with whatever you want!!

Sorry if my instructions for the recipes suck...if you have any questions about them feel free to ask!!!

Alright, onto Thursday...I went up to my parents house to set up the internet on their Wii and to hang out for a bit since I didn't have plans until the evening. I went grocery shopping with my mom, played Wii sports with my dad and then headed back down to Dayton to get ready for the New Years gathering. I stopped at the store on my way home to get chips and guacamole to take to the gathering and got a coffee from Boston Stoker. Once I got back to my place I was carrying in a couple bags and while getting my key out of the lock I spilled my coffee all down the front of me, on groceries, my hands and feet...ouch!!! The only good that came out of it was that my back hallway smelled like a vanilla soy coffee instead of pee from the neighbors dog.
After cleaning myself up, I went over to Stephanie's to get ready before we left but  all the plans for the evening changed and we ended up having the gathering there. We ate yummy crappy for you food, had silly conversations, almost missed new years, played mafia for like three hours and I went to bed at 4.

This morning Stephanie and I had lunch with a couple girlfriends and then got coffee because we were both super tired and felt like poo from the night before...we felt hung over even though we don't/didn't drink.
After Stephanie dropped me off I went up to my parents to wash the clothes I spilled coffee on and just sat around watching tv all day and cuddling with all the dogs. I still felt like poo so I headed back to Dayton and went to the gym and now I feel much much better.
Whoo...long post...sorry!!!
I am having trouble keeping my eyes open and don't think I have anything else left to update about soooo GOODNIGHT!!!!

I hope everyone had a lovely new years eve/day!!
